Rose Marie Chaney, 84
Rose Marie Chronic (Snedden) Chaney was born on Feb. 21, 1939, at her grandparents’ home in Dover. Shortly after, her family moved to the Heath homestead in Algoma.
Rose was the valedictorian of the Sandpoint class of 1957. She went on to study dental hygiene and returned home to work with her husband Dr. Angus Snedden.
After Angus’ passing, Rose met and married Ron Chaney. Ron and Rose bought Kaniksu Realty and operated it for many years. After retiring, they got their boat The Wilidi III and hosted friends and family on Puget Sound for many years.
Rose was an avid gardener, knitter, and reader. She could outwork everyone around her. She was a Woman of Wisdom, and volunteered at Bizarre Bazaar and The Library.
Rose cherished her family and many friends. We were in awe of her prodigious intelligence and humor, and we were blessed to be part of her “Clan.”
Rose was preceded in death by her parent, Elza and Ted Chronic; husband, Angus Snedden; husband, Ron Chaney; and her beloved sister, Donna Broadsword.
Rose is survived by her and Angus’ daughter, Mary Lou Merrel; stepchildren, John (Mary) Snedden, Lynn (Steve) Rinker), Janet (John) Kee, Connie Church, Pat (Steve) Horsman, Vicky (Sam) Guello; sister, Judy(Tom) Dabrowski; brother Mike(Lisa) Chronic; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Rose was a significant contributor to our community and will be sorely missed.
A celebration of Rose’s life will be Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at 1403 Westwood Drive, Sandpoint, Idaho.
