SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. tonight to discuss two items that have been at the forefront of the council’s attention.

The first item of new business is a proposed resolution to an agreement with Ginno Construction of Idaho to build an inclusive playground and splash pad at Travers Park. The council voted 3-2 on June 5 to enter the agreement.

The project is part of a series of developments at the park including a skatepark expansion and the construction of a multi-sport facility for tennis and pickleball.

Additionally, the council will discuss its policy on remote public comment in the wake of a recent change. On June 5, Mayor Jeremy Grimm made an executive decision to cancel the ability of remote viewers of council meetings to provide testimony after “disturbing” comments were made in a May meeting.

Some councilors, including President Deb Ruehle, were dissatisfied with the decision. Community members can still provide comments in-person.

The meeting will also feature a presentation from Better Together Animal Alliance. City council meetings are held at Sandpoint City Hall, 1123 Lake St., and are livestreamed on Zoom at https://www.sandpointidaho.gov/your-government/meetings.
