WSU Master Gardeners offering pest management class
The WSU Master Gardeners program is offering a class on integrated pest management Thursday, July 11, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The class will be presented by Master Gardener, Kamori Cattadoris.
IPM is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to managing pests in your garden. In IPM, pesticides are used only when needed and in combination with other approaches for more effective, long-term control. There are beneficial predators that prey upon harmful insects. For example, lady beetles eat aphids. IPM control is a broad-based approach that integrates both chemical and non-chemical practices for the control of pests. In this class, you will learn how to control pests while minimizing or eliminating the use of chemical toxins.
This class will take place at the Extension Office, 227 S. Garden Ave. Newport. To register for this class contact, Beverly Sarles, M-F, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at 509-447-2401 or email anytime at: beverly.sarles@wsu.edu. The class fee is $5, ($3 for MGs), and can be paid by cash, check, money order, or through PayPal.
