COEUR d’ALENE — The 19U North Idaho Lakers fought tooth and nail, but fell to the Multisport Maroon 18U, a Montesano, Wash. based travel team, 6-5, and to the Calgary Blues AAA 7-6, to open up the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic on Thursday at Thorco Field.

In the first game against Multisport, Dallen Williams knocked in a two-run single and Parker Reichart later scored Williams on a suicide squeeze to lead a three-run first inning rally for the Lakers. Down 4-3 heading into the fifth, Mason Little hit an RBI single to center to tie the game 4-4. After conceding a run in the bottom half of the inning, Greyson Johnson drew a walk in the sixth with the bases loaded to tie the game again. However, in the bottom of the sixth, luck wasn’t on the Lakers side as Multisport scored on a throwing error to walk-off the game.

North Idaho rotated through four pitchers in the first matchup — Jorden Tyler, Sage Medeiros, Chase Sanroman and Dallen Williams. Tyler got the start and went 1 2/3 innings, giving up two hits, three walks and two earned runs. Medeiros went 1 1/3 innings, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out two batters. Chase Sanroman was also solid in relief, giving up two hits and one earned run while striking out one batter across two innings of work.

After the early morning game with Multisport, the Lakers took on the Calgary Blues in the afternoon. Heading into the bottom of the sixth, North Idaho trailed 7-0 and only had two hits … but their bats came alive. Williams hit a two-run double to right field, Gavin Day, Tyler, and Johnson were all hit by pitches with the bases loaded, and Chase Sanroman hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to make it a 7-6 game. With the bases loaded again, Calgary was able to strike out Reichart on a 3-2 count to end what was a thrilling game.

Alex Leverich was tagged with the loss after starting on the bump for the Lakers and going 2 2/3 innings and giving up five hits, two walks and four earned runs while striking out one batter. Reichart was great in relief, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out one batter across 1 2/3 innings. Cole Sanroman pitched 1 2/3 no-hit innings in relief, walking three and giving up three unearned runs while striking out one batter.

After losing four straight games by one run, North Idaho (10-9) will look to turn things around Friday against Wenatchee Valley and Coeur d’Alene.
