LEGION BASEBALL: 19U Lakers downed by Missoula Impact on last day of Wood Bat Classic
COEUR d’ALENE — The 19U North Idaho Lakers squandered a 5-1 lead, falling 7-5 to the Missoula Impact to finish out the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic held Saturday at Thorco Field in Coeur d’Alene.
The Lakers put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning after Missoula committed a series of errors and Gavin Day batted in a run after grounding into a fielder’s choice. In the second, Dallen Williams and Day both hit sacrifice flies to lift North Idaho to a 5-1 lead. However, Missoula scored at least one run in every inning that followed and eventually took home the two-run victory.
Coleman Inge, Zach Leverich, and Soren Caprio had singles, Williams a double, in the contest for the Lakers. On the field, North Idaho committed five errors — only one of Missoula’s runs was earned. Jorden Tyler started the game for the Lakers and gave up two hits, two walks and two runs (zero earned) while striking out one batter across three innings. Chase Sanroman relieved his twin brother, Cole, in the fourth and threw two innings, giving up one hit, two walks and two runs (zero earned) while striking out a team-high four batters.
The Lakers finished 1-4 overall in Wood Bat Classic tournament play.
North Idaho (11-11) will look to right the ship on Friday, when they host the Orofino Merchants for a doubleheader at War Memorial Field.
