LOCAL BOXER WINS TITLE IN EUGENE

The Sandpoint Elks Boxing Club sent three to the Junior Olympic Boxing Tournament in Eugene, Ore. Jeff McCracken came back with the crown in the 139-pound division and the opportunity to travel to the National Junior Olympics. McCracken defeated a Portland boxer for the title in the 14-15-year-old weight class and proved to be quite a contender for a first-year fighter. Mark Tucker, a 90-lb. Sandpoint pugilist, dropped a Tacoma fighter in the 12-13-year-old semi-finals, then lost a close decision to a Eugene boxer. Robbie Kucherry, Sandpoint, couldn’t get up to the 90-lb. weight limit for 14-15-year-olds, but fought an exhibition match against an 85-lb. five-time winner of the Eugene Diamond Belt. Kucherry, with much less experience, dropped him in a close decision. Kucherry just turned 14, so he could return to Regionals next year.

It also placed a minimum of $4000 on residential construction in the area.
