Sagle couple arrested for warrant, destruction of evidence
SAGLE — A Sagle couple was arrested late last month after Bonner County deputies allege that one resisted arrest and the other admitted to knowingly tampering with evidence and destroying property.
On June 22, deputies responded to a weapons offense call involving the couple. According to the caller, the man was allegedly throwing fake punches and kicks at the woman and appeared to have a machete in his waistband.
Upon speaking with the couple, it was determined the man, Codi Muskrat, had an active warrant out of Kootenai County. When deputies attempted to detain Muskrat, he allegedly began resisting and fighting with officers.
“A scuffle ensued where several items of equipment came off our uniforms, to include our radio microphones, body cameras — $130 each approximately … and a cellphone — $250 approximately,” a deputy wrote in the probable cause affidavit.
While waiting for EMS to arrive, the deputies went to search for their equipment, but were unable to find it, according to the probable cause affidavit. A nearby witness allegedly reported to deputies they had seen the woman, Aimee Brown, run up while law enforcement officers were detaining Muskrat, allegedly grabbing the gear and throwing it into a nearby body of water.
After searching the shoreline, court records contend that deputies were unable to recover the gear.
“When confronted on this matter, I heard Brown admit to committing the act,” deputies wrote in the probable cause affidavit.
Brown was arrested on two counts of felony destruction of evidence for the body cameras and one count of misdemeanor malicious injury to property for the cellphone. She was booked into the Bonner County Jail with no further incident.
Her bail was set at $1,000 and she will have a preliminary hearing July 17.
