July 18, 1974 – ANGLERS BRAVE WIND, RAIN

Pend Oreille Lake fishing was good last week if you weren’t rained out or blown off the water. Many hardy anglers stuck it out and were rewarded with some nice catches. Things picked up over the weekend with many large Kamloops being taken.

TRINA SCOULLER MARRIED

The Latter Day Saints Church in Sandpoint was the scene of the July 3 wedding of Trina R. Scouller and Frank L. Noble. Parents of the bride are Mrs. Daniel Rubens, Sequim, Wash., and Thomas Scouller of Juneau, Alaska. Mr. and Mrs. W. Earl Noble, Rte. 1, Sandpoint, are parents of the groom. Bishop W. Earl Noble performed the double-ring service. A reception was held in the church cultural hall. The newlyweds will reside in Sandpoint.

LADY GOLFERS SCORE AT AVONDALE

The Sandpoint Women’s Golf Association sent two teams to a nine-hole tournament Monday at the Avondale Golf Course at Hayden Lake and came back with first and second places in both team and individual scoring. Yvonne Morton, Mary Austin, Florence Williams and Betty Slaughter comprised the Sandpoint team which captured the low gross honors for the tournament. Marian Patchell, Lillian Krause, Louise Lucky and Ernie Daniel combined to place second. Mrs. Morton and Mrs. Williams tied at 48 for individual low gross scoring.

July 18, 1949 - 25-LB. KAMLOOPS CAUGHT

The second largest Kamloops rainbow trout of 1949 was taken Sunday from Lake Pend Oreille off the Lakeview cement plant. The 25 lb. 3 oz. fish was caught by O.M. McMillion, Coeur d’Alene, on a Lucky Louie blueback plug. McMillion was fishing with Wayne Rife of that city; their bag also included 49 bluebacks. Largest fish of the year, taken in May by Edward Burrell, Hayden Lake, weighed 27 lb.

TREASURE HUNT IS FEATURED

Buried treasure! Boys and girls who come to the Memorial park play grounds at 10 a.m. Saturday will be given maps and instructions and turned loose on a treasure hunt, which playground supervisor Jack Jones says will be a highlight of the summer. He said mothers can be assured of a well-rounded program of activities for their youngsters by sending them to Memorial park mornings and the city beach in the afternoon. Play in both places is supervised.

BOPP FAMILY PICNIC, REUNION

A July 4 picnic at Samowen bay brought together members of the Bopp family, some from quite a distance, to spend the holiday with their mother, Mrs. Catherine Bopp. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bopp and family of Ontario, Ore. and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bopp and family of Spokane, who remained for a 10-day visit. Also attending the picnic were the Jack and Douglas Bopp families and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Coffer [nee Bernita Bopp], all of this city.
