DISTRICT A CLASS A LEGION BASEBALL: 19U Lakers can’t quite close gap on Northern Lakes

MOSCOW — Down six runs at one point, the 19U North Idaho Lakers rallied for four runs over the final two frames, but fell to the Northern Lakes Mountaineers 7-5 in a District A Class A American Legion baseball tournament loser-out game held Saturday at Bear Field.

North Idaho struck early. In the first inning, Jorden Tyler, who finished the tournament with a total of eight RBIs, doubled to center field to bring in a run. In the third, the Mountaineers got to Lakers starter Sage Medeiros, scoring five runs. The Northern Lakes, a Rathdrum based legion team, scored two more runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.

The Lakers scored one run in the sixth on a passed ball, and in the final frame, scored three more runs on a couple of errors and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded. North Idaho, down two runs, stranded two on the base paths to end the game.

Mason Little led the Lakers at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Gavin Day had a double and two stolen bases on the day. On the mound, Parker Reichart threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out one batter.

The 19U North Idaho Lakers officially finished their season with an 18-13 record.
