July 21, 1974 – NEWS FROM SAGLE

Having a nice time despite drizzling sunshine at the Kneisels’ July 4th barbecue were Mr. and Mrs. Doug Farr and Steven, San Jose; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Peterson; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wagner and Rosalee. 

Mrs. Robert Johnson and daughter, Ann, are back after a month with her mother, who is hospitalized in Minneapolis. Mrs. Johnson plans to return soon. 

Friends of Mrs. Arlene Cordingley met at the Garden for a going-away lunch. The Cordingleys, who live at the fish hatchery, are being transferred to Lewiston. Present were Mrs. Mary Cochran, Mrs. Dagmar Kirking, Mrs. Linda Aavedal, Mrs. Beverly Johnson, Mrs. Judy Farmin and Mrs. Milan LaMarche. Mrs. Kennedy sent a lovely bouquet.

EBBETT NAMED SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR

Mrs. Marian Ebbett was appointed chairman of the Bonner County School Board during its last meeting, replacing the retiring Venus Verhei. Jack Bopp was appointed vice chairman, and Wayne Hagadone was re-appointed clerk-treasurer. Newly-elected board members David Beeson, Jack Bopp and Darryl Kenops were sworn in during the meeting.

PARKER TRAINING AT CORPUS CHRISTI

Midshipman Gary B. Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Parker, Sandpoint, is participating in summer training at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Tex. He will also attend a sea duty indoctrination course at the Coronado, Calif. Naval Base.

July 21, 1949 – LAUNDRY DESTROYED!

A disastrous $30,000 fire early Tuesday gutted the Lakeside Laundry at Second and Lake. The blaze had a good start before it was discovered and by the time the fire department arrived about 3 a.m., flames billowed out the front windows. There was little the department could do but save adjoining buildings.

4-H CLUBBERS GET DAIRY CALVES

Bonner county 4-H club members received 19 dairy heifers under a sponsorship program set up by the Sandpoint chamber of commerce. Sandpoint businesses are sponsors. Applicants agree to feed and care for the animal, exhibit her at Bonner county fairs and keep sponsors informed. The sponsors underwrite the applicant’s bank note. Lucky 4-H club members receiving calves, and their sponsors are: Yvonne Bogue, Mountain States Power Co.; Arthur Turk, Tifft Agency; Dick Gooby, Phillips Insurance Agency; Irene Albertson, Cox Implement Co.; Wilma Turk, Patton & Anderson; Luellen Brillon, Hubbard & Davis; Carolyn Jacobson, Furniture Exchange; Francis Barney, Pend Oreille Sport Shop; Don Albertson, Sandpoint Motor Co.; Dick Sherwood, Pye’s General Supply; Norma Siems, Sandpoint Farm Store; Sharon Kennedy, Lou’s Auto Parts; Lloyd Falk, Bonner County Abstract Co.; Joann Bogue, The Hub Market; Val Gene Perry, Dr. M.P.
