July 23, 1949 – EYE BEACH CONDITIONS

Mrs. Frank Evans was spokesman at the city council meeting for a group of ladies protesting sanitary conditions at the city bathing beach. It is their opinion that raw sewage is finding its way into the water from the city dock area and they asked that something be done about it. At present, there are three persons living at the city dock, and the houseboats they live in are equipped with regulation chemical toilets, said city councilman Nesbitt; Kenmor Marina is presently installing one for its shop. He agreed it is desirable to have tests made of the water at city beach and to inspect houseboats and boathouses for possible contamination. In other city council action, the zoning ordinance passed at the last council meeting was withdrawn at the request of Mayor Floyd Gray, who cited its lack of adequate provision for business district expansion.

Panida theater moviegoers will now view their favorite stars on the finest moving picture screen the industry has produced. The new cycloramic screen, which provides the very last word in perfect picture presentation, was installed yesterday, said Floyd Gray, manager. The Panida is one of the first houses in the Pacific northwest to install one of the new screens, which add depth and clarity to black and white movies and startling realism to color.
