Carl 'Rusty' Rounsville, 72

Carl “Rusty” George Rounsville passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. His celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Rusty was born April 26, 1952, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Carl “Bill” and Addie Mae Rounsville. He was raised amongst the mountains, river, and lake in Clark Fork, Idaho, where he fostered his love of nature, hunting, fishing, hiking, and logging. Rusty graduated from Clark Fork High School in 1970 and was well known for playing varsity basketball and track. He made many life-long friendships and was proud to be a Wampus Cat.

Rusty attended school and played basketball at Lewis & Clark State College. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He was a Fightin’ Cock. He was a family man. Rusty was married twice before finally joining wedlock with the love of his life, Patricia Higgins, on Nov. 28, 1994, in Tempe, Ariz. The couple made their home in Clark Fork, later settling down in Sandpoint. Rusty was the proud owner and operator of B.Y.A. Logging, finally retiring in 2014.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Patricia Rounsville; sister Mary Fletcher and brother Jerry Rounsville; children Jared (Darlene) Rounsville, Heather (Wayne) Adams, Aubrey Rounsville, Shawn Rounsville, and Isabelle (Eric) Slider; step-children Sarah Rusnak, Jennifer (Evan) McNeley, Jaylene (Tom) Heinbaugh, Jessica (Geoff) Hamblen, Janell Hartley; along with 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nora Mae (Gordon) Hoskins, and sister-in-law Anita Rounsville. 

Rusty was a member of Holy Myrrhbearers Antiochian Orthodox Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching basketball, spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their games, and watching GU basketball. He will be deeply missed by many.
