Mark was born March 25, 1980, in Spokane to Thomas and Jeri Schmelzer. In his younger years, he grew up with a love for sports and participated in youth soccer, basketball, baseball and enjoyed collecting baseball cards. Mark attended Lewis and Clark High School, where he graduated in 1999. During his time there, he was a dedicated athlete, competing in cross country, track, and golf. He also completed 12 years in the Boy Scouts, embodying the values of service and community. After high school, he pursued further education at Spokane Community College.

Mark spent most of his life in Spokane, but also lived in Colville for several years where he managed the Sears store. Upon moving to Sandpoint, he quickly found that he enjoyed building things and worked on kitchen and bath remodels with Kitchen Tune Up. His career in construction continued over the years where he showcased his talent and dedication. Continuing his love for construction, he successfully ran his own company, Tin Cup Services for the last several years.

Mark was a very good left-handed golfer and played weekly. His deep connection to the golf community was evident in his enthusiasm for coordinating golf tournaments and his love for traveling to various golf courses. Some of his favorite destinations included Glacier, Catalina Island, Myrtle Beach, and numerous courses throughout the Northwest. Beyond golf, Mark enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors. He was known for his love of puzzles and games, always bringing a sense of fun and camaraderie to those around him.

Mark is survived by his loving parents, Thomas and Jeri Schmelzer; his brother, Todd (Becky) Schmelzer; his sister, Kelli (Nels) Reno; his cherished nieces, Brennah and Alyssa Schmelzer; and his beloved nephews, Bentley and Connor Reno; along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
