Circus magic coming to Sandpoint
SANDPOINT — Lions, tigers, bears — oh my!
Sandpoint kids will get the opportunity to see some of those animals and more at the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus when it comes to town this June.
On Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, four full circus shows will be performed under a real big top tent at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, showcasing multiple acts with lions, horses, acrobats and more.
“We're so thrilled to see such a huge response for our upcoming shows,” circus staff said in a press release. “We love Sandpoint. It's one of our favorite stops we make.”
On Friday, shows will take place at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, shows will happen at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online any time before the day of the show. Adult tickets will cost $13 and $8 for children. The day of the event, tickets can be purchased at the box office for $16 for adults and $9 for children 2 to 12 years old, and for seniors 65 years and older. Children under 2 years old can attend for free.
“Our 90-minute, family-friendly show features big cats, tight rope, aerialists, foot juggling, horses, daredevils and so much more,” staff said.
All of Culpepper & Merriweather’s big cats are captive-bred and most are rescues. Approved and licensed by the USDA, each animal is seen by a veterinarian every month.
“All of our animals are trained using positive reinforcement,” they said. “In the show, you will see animals rewarded with their favorite treats for performing behaviors. Our animals have the choice of which behaviors they feel like doing. Some days, that means they do everything asked of them, and other days they feel like making their trainers look a little silly.”
See the tiger siblings, Delilah and Solomon, as well as Wendell the lion perform their best tricks when they come to town in a few weeks.
