Colburn refuse station is far from user-friendly

| June 4, 2024 1:00 AM

I recently had to use the Colburn Refuse Station. At the entry, one must wait in line much longer to enter. Once at the head of the line, you are told where you can dump the trash/wet garbage.

Now one proceeds to the dump site and waits in line again. Once at the head of the line, you are directed where to back up to unload your trash/wet garbage. Now you get out of your vehicle and walk through slushy wet garbage residue to unload, no way to avoid it.

According to a Bonner County Daily Bee article (May 23, 2024), the waste management director said he was “excited for this, we’re trying to prepare for the growth we’re seeing. The newly remodeled site will improve the managing, handling and transportation of trash more efficiently.” Unfortunately, this is at the expense of the user.

The situation at Colburn Refuse Station is not user-friendly for sure. I know of nobody who likes to walk through wet garbage residue that consists of who knows what to unload their vehicle. I hope common sense prevails and this is corrected.
