WSU Master Gardeners offer drip irrigation class
WSU Master Gardeners are offering a class on installing a drip irrigation system.
The class, set for Thursday, June 13, will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It will be taught by Master Gardeners Dixie Chichester and Kamori Cattadoris. They will discuss the benefits of drip irrigation, parts of a basic drip irrigation system, optional parts, required tools, yearly maintenance, and tips for success. A tour of the Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden will take place for participants to see first-hand how the drip irrigation system is set up in their garden.
Installing a drip water system is an efficient way to create a healthier garden and is much more cost-effective, using 20 to 50% less water than normal sprinkler systems. Drip irrigation goes straight into the ground and isn’t susceptible to water run-off, drift, or evaporation. The class fee is $5, ($3 for MGs), and can be paid by cash, check, money order, or through PayPal.
The class will be held at the Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden, located northwest of the WSU/Pend Oreille County Extension Office, 227 S. Garden Ave., Newport. Participants are encouraged to bring a folding lawn chair.
