Annual youth Buddhism program starts today
Sravasti Abbey, a Buddhist monastery near Newport, is offering its annual "Young Adults Explore Buddhism" program. Offered for those between the ages of 18 to 29, the program runs June 14-20.
Venerable Thubten Chodron, a renowned Buddhist author and teacher, is leading the program.
Open to young people of all backgrounds and faiths, it includes meditation instruction and practice, teachings on topics such as working with difficult emotions, and group discussions. The schedule also features outdoor work in the abbey's forest and meadows.
The program helps young people explore deep, personal concerns about urgent issues they are facing. No meditation experience is required, just curiosity and an open mind.
The program is particularly helpful for young people seeking like-minded friends, trying to make sense of the world or seeking ways to make their lives meaningful.
Sravasti Abbey practices Buddhism in the Tibetan tradition, offering courses and retreats in English. It has an extensive YouTube channel and supports Chodron's publishing of Buddhist philosophy books read worldwide.
