June 18, 1974 – PHOTO CONTEST WINNERS

It took six judges two hours to decide on the winners in the first annual News-Bulletin feature photo contest. The winning photo was taken by Glenn Cruickshank, 19, who is going into his junior year at the U of I. He has taken pictures for the Argonaut, the school paper, and is interested in photography as a possible career. Jan Snedden, 18, a recent SHS graduate, captured second-place honors. Steve Fenton, 15, Sandpoint, captured both third place and honorable mention with two photos. Over 50 photographs were entered in the contest.

WILL CRACK DOWN ON DOUBLE PARKING

In an effort to stop the annoyance to motorists whose cars are penned in at the curb by thoughtless “just-wait-for-me, it’ll-only-take-a-minute” double parkers, the city police will be cracking down on violators. The problem is worst in late afternoon and evening. “Double parking is not ever permissible,” Police Chief McCrum said. “People must learn to walk again. After all, parking can be had within a couple blocks of any store. Those in larger cities think nothing of walking much farther after parking.”

DAVIS LOSES CAMERA IN LIGHTNING

Dwayne D. (Cap) Davis, employed by the Ross Hall studio, nearly lost his life and did lose about $500 worth of camera equipment Sunday when he slid down a slippery embankment into the turbulent water of Lightning creek, went over a 15-foot falls into a lower pool and managed to struggle to the bank. He and a companion were fishing and taking pictures in the Lightning creek canyon when he lost his footing. His camera equipment was swept on downstream and has not been recovered.
