Art on the Green announces 2024 poster contest winner
The 56th annual Art on the Green poster has been chosen.
Sandpoint artist Heather Mehra-Pedersen is the winner of the 2024 contest. Her work was selected out of 34 entries, which were narrowed down to four posters for the public to vote on.
"Her vibrant watercolor emits the joys of poppies and the beauty around us," Art on the Green officials said in a Wednesday announcement.
Mehra-Pedersen began painting at age 14. Her mother told her that watercolor was the most unforgiving medium, and it is where she feels she learned patience. Her painting has evolved from meticulous brush strokes on small canvases to textured swipes of thick paint with palette knives across large canvases.
This was the first time Mehra-Pedersen entered the annual poster contest. Mehra-Pedersen will be present at Art on the Green to sign her posters. She will also have a booth with her work for sale.
Sponsored by the nonprofit Citizens' Council for the Arts, Art on the Green is a family-friendly community celebration of fine art, crafts, music and food. Fees and commissions help to pay the costs of the festival. Active participation by all interested members of the community is invited and encouraged.
In addition to creating, producing and supporting Art on the Green, the Citizens' Council for the Arts sponsors community art projects such as the Aspiring Artists Club at North Idaho College, helps support the NIC Corner Gallery, donates art supplies to local schools, donates art to NIC and donates an annual work of art to a local school.
The 2024 Art on the Green will be held Aug. 2 to Aug. 4 on the grounds of NIC, 1000 W. Garden Ave., Coeur d'Alene.
