KUNA, Idaho — Clark Fork High junior Rebecca Heilman placed fourth out of 13 shooters in the female novice division to lead the Wampus Cats’ trap shooting team at the Idaho State Trap Shooting Tournament held Saturday, June 15 at the Boise Gun Club.

Heilman scored 60 out of 100 points over four total rounds to capture fourth place. In the second round of the first session, she hit a career-best 18 out of 25 targets.

“This just goes to show that you can go from almost nothing to something in a matter of weeks,” Heilman said. “I went from shooting three out of 25 to 18 out of 25. It was a great experience.”

Seventh grader Breckham Noble and eighth grader Kyler Heilman, Rebecca’s brother, were two other shooters from Clark Fork who made up the 117-person field between the novice, junior varsity and varsity divisions. A shooter’s level is determined by the Team Management System (TMS), a website where teams report their scores for weekly shooting events, and is based on a shooter’s average score for the season.

Kyler finished seventh out of 12 competitors in the male novice division with a score of 59 points. Just like his sister, he also shot a career-best 18 out of 25 targets in the final round. Noble competed in the male junior varsity division where he scored a team-high 61 points to place 21st out of 28 competitors. Noble’s best round came in the first round of the second session and also happened to be 18 out of 25 targets.

“This was a great experience for each of the three Clark Fork trap shooters who are all competing in their first year in the sport and in the Idaho Clay Target League,” coach Adam Noble said. “The team would like to express their gratitude to the Sandpoint Gun Club in Sagle for hosting and coaching them through their season.”

Kyler and Rebecca Heilman, and Breckham Noble, will go down as the first trap shooters to ever represent Clark Fork in school history.
