James 'Jim' Johnson, 77

James Robert Johnson, 77, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. 

Funeral services have been held at Sandpoint United Methodist Church in Sandpoint with the Rev. Catherine Lyle officiating.

Jim was born Nov. 22, 1946, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Norman and Julia Johnson. He grew up in Newell, W.Va., and later moved to Southern California, graduating from high school in Anaheim, Calif. He attended California State University, Fullerton, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration in 1968. 

Jim married Barbara Curel-Sylvestre in 1980 in North Hollywood, Calif., and they later divorced in 1992. Jim married Barbara Salyer in 1994 in Leesburg, Va., and they later divorced in 2015. 

He became a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in California, in 1976. He owned and operated James Robert Johnson, CPA in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Toluca Lake, Calif.; and Monterey, Calif., before retiring in 2008. 

Jim was a member of Rotary International and the California Society of CPAs. In “retirement” Jim began farming in North Idaho. He owned Soyboy Farms, and mostly raised edamame, hay, and chickens.

He donated eggs and meat to the Sandpoint United Methodist Church community meal. He enjoyed farming, raising tomatoes, exercising, golfing, basketball, music, and spending time with his family. He also dearly loved his German Shepherd “Alena.”

Jim is survived by his daughter, Mattye Johnson. He is also survived by his stepchildren (from his first marriage), Antoinette Spolar Levine and Philip Spolar; step-granddaughter Lulu Belle Levine; and his daughter of the heart, Kaitlyn Cummings.
