Comp Plan working session planned

SANDPOINT — City officials have scheduled a joint working session regarding Sandpoint’s Comprehensive Plan for next week. 

The session will include the City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission. 

City officials are encouraging the public to attend this final review where public comment will be accepted. No action will be taken.

“The Comprehensive Plan is the community’s long-range vision for the future and provides a strategic framework for reaching that vision for the next 15 years,” Sandpoint Mayor Jeremy Grimm said in a press release. “Through the direction of specific goals and objectives, the plan will be used to guide land use regulations such as zoning and subdivisions, as well as funding decisions on other policies and programs.”

After the planning process began in 2019 with community outreach and engagement, it was paused in 2020. The process restarted in 2022, with an emphasis on community vision, housing, and neighborhoods. The draft document was posted for online review and comment, and open house workshops were held April 27, Nov. 29, and Dec. 7 last year. On Feb. 13 of this year, a joint working session with Planning and Zoning as well as the City Council was also held. 

“Further review and incorporation of comments from a joint City Council-Planning and Zoning Commission workshop, and a commission public hearing have been included in the Final Draft,” Grimm said. “It is anticipated that following this working session the City Council will hold a final public hearing to consider adoption and implementation of the document.”

The session will be held Wednesday, March 13, at 6 p.m. at Sandpoint City Hall, 1123 Lake Street.
