SANDPOINT — Volunteering in retirement improves longevity and quality of life, Community Resource EnVision Center officials said.

That’s one reason CREC will be hosting its second annual retirement mixer set for March 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Farmhouse Kitchen in Ponderay.

“The [resource center] is partnering with the East Bonner County Library District, Dogsmile Adventures, Fosterful, and Bonner County Historical Society to put on this event that engages and inspires newly retired folks to use their time and talents in ways that bring them joy, and benefits the community,” Katie Begalke, executive director of the resource center, said.

At the event, attendees can meet others in their age group, discover community opportunities, and get to know a few of the community’s nonprofits. Many nonprofits within the community offer volunteer opportunities that may be a good fit for retired individuals.

This event is free to the public. Reservations are recommended so that organizers can better gauge attendance.
