MGs offering gardening class
The WSU Master Gardeners are offering a class on “Season Extension Strategies & Methods” later this month.
The class will be held Thursday, March 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will be presented by a Master Gardener panel.
The area's regional climate conditions present gardeners with the challenges of a growing season that is both shorter and features and colder night temperatures than ideal, MG officials said.
The March 14 presentation covers the science behind basic principles and strategies, as well as a wide variety of solutions, including inexpensive greenhouses, cold frames, and hoop tunnels. An informal panel will discuss their experiences with these, plus seed starting and crop timing.
The class will take place at the Create Arts Center, 900 Fourth Street in Newport. There is a $5 class fee ($3 for MGs), and can be paid by check, money order, cash or through PayPal.
To register for this class, contact Beverly Sarles, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 509-447-2401 or via email at beverly.sarles@wsu.edu.
