PREP BASEBALL: Zylstra pitches well in season-opening loss to Riverside
CHATTAROY — Priest River was held hitless in their season-opening 6-1 road loss to Riverside on Thursday.
After giving up two early runs, the Spartans settled down, getting some solid relief innings from Dakota Zylstra, who made his varsity debut. Zylstra went 2 1/3 innings giving up just one hit, no earned runs, three walks, and recorded one strikeout. Logan Troumbley also pitched a hitless inning in the sixth, striking out one. Priest River pitching gave up just three hits total in the contest.
The Rams’ Hunter Hudson and Henry Rice combined for a seven inning no-hitter for Riverside, walking just three and striking out nine.
Priest River’s lone run came in the sixth after Colton Brooks scored on wild pitch. All of Riverside’s run came by errors or walks; the Spartans did not concede an RBI.
Tyson Troudt stoles two bases, Colton Kuprienko one, for the Spartans.
Priest River (0-1) travels to Grangeville on Saturday.
