GIRLS

LEWISTON — Shelby Garten (130-135) of 7B Womens Wrestling, in her first time ever competing in Freestyle and Greco-Roman, won her weight class at the Gator Memorial Tournament held Saturday, March 16, at Jenifer Middle School.

In Freestyle, Garten pinned Aubree Graves of Bonners Ferry Wrestling Club (0:33) and Sammie Slyter of Lewiston Wrestling Club (0:59) to pick up gold. In Greco-Roman, she then defeated the same two opponents, Graves by pin (0:00) and Slyter by technical fall (8-0) to capture her second title of the day.

Also winning individual titles for 7B Womens Wrestling were Mackenzee Donenfeld (95-100), who defeated teammate Violet Henney in Freestyle and Kaysha Kimura, who defeated Sandpoint Legacy’s Maddie Hatfield in Greco-Roman.

Lewiston, Sandpoint, and Bonners Ferry brought a combined 11 girls (seven with 7B Womens Wrestling, two with Sandpoint Legacy Wrestling Club, and two with Bonners Ferry Wrestling Club), which helped to triple the number of entries compared to last year’s tournament.

BOYS

Tyler Wood (14U 95) and Zak Wood (14U 117) of Sandpoint Legacy Wrestling Club, and Shane Sherrill (Junior 157) of Bonners Ferry Wrestling Club, all won their weight classes in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman at the Gator Memorial Tournament.

Between both styles, Tyler Wood went 5-0, Zak Wood 4-0, to win their respective titles. Sherrill won a total of seven matches Saturday to take home both of his titles. Aidan Rork (Junior 126) of Bonners Ferry Wrestling Club also won a title in Freestyle and placed second in Greco-Roman, going a combined 4-1.
