Library hosting conservation programs
Are you looking to learn more about environmentally sound landscaping practices? How about how you can help with pollinator conservation?
If you said yes to either — or both — the Priest River Library can help with a pair of upcoming programs.
On Thursday, March 21, the library will hold a program, "Wild Ones Northern Rockies: Promoting Environmentally Sound Landscaping Practices." The program, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, is presented by George Gehrig and will take place at the Priest River Library, 118 Main St.
The program is a chance to learn about Wild Ones and its new Northern Rockies Chapter as well as the actions that area residents can take in their yards and communities to repair local ecosystems. Information also includes ways to boost declining bird, bee, and butterfly populations through ecological landscaping practices.
In the second program, "Bring Back the Pollinators," Gehrig will print a program on four steps to help with pollinator conservation through the Xerces Society event.
The program will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Priest River Library.
With the four core values, pollinator conservation can be adapted to any location, library officials said.
The four steps are:
• Growing pollinator friendly flowers
• Providing nest sites
• Avoiding pesticides
• Spreading the word about conservation
