| March 21, 2024 9:45 PM

SANDPOINT — Jesse Turner didn’t just pitch a gem on the mound, but he also went 2-for-3 with a single, a double and three RBIs in Sandpoint’s 7-1 win over West Valley at War Memorial Field on Thursday.

“The theme going into tonight was just — be ready by pitch one,” head coach Ricky Klontz said. “Jesse set the tone on the mound for us and had two big hits that really got us going. It was a good team win for us.”

In the first inning, both Turner and Finn Mellander hit RBI singles to get things started. In the second, Parker Reichart hit an RBI single, Turner a two-run double to cap off a five-run inning for Sandpoint.

On the mound Turner went 4 1/3 innings, giving up two hits, one earned run, two walks, and recording three strikeouts to get the win. The hard throwing right-hander Sage Medeiros finished off the game with five strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings, giving up just two walks.

Sandpoint (2-3) will host Bonners Ferry for a doubleheader on Thursday, March 28.
