POAC adds cartooning to adult art classes lineup

Pend Oreille Arts Council’s Joyce Dillon Studio adult art classes are ongoing with some exciting new additions. 

Local artist, writer, and retired architect, Barry Burgess will teach a class on cartooning. Registration is limited for this class, and the deadline to sign up is April 3, so if you’re interested go to artinsandpoint.org today.

“Cartooning and comics are an expressive medium an artist uses to deliver a message,” Burgess said. “The messages are more than just superheroes and funny animals. Cartooning today is an art form of major popularity and unlimited range.”

He said that cartooning can be useful for artists to make graphic memories and to tell stories that have never been told before. No special supplies are needed for this class. You’ll be asked to bring an ordinary pencil, pens, colorful felt-tips, and some paper.

Also coming up in the Joyce Dillon Studio are classes on watercolor landscapes with Robilyn Robbins, kimekomi taught by Jenny Barry, and Dan Carpenter is offering his acrylic painting class in the evenings this season. Sponsored by POAC but held in his workshop are two metal classes taught by Dave Gonzo in which students make copper and steel ladles at one, and copper bracelets at another. Carol Kovalchuk will be instructing on how to make Dorset buttons and later in the month will teach a class on how to make personal totems.

Pend Oreille Arts Council facilitates visual and performing arts in Bonner County.
