Chess festival returns next week
SANDPOINT — Chess enthusiasts young and old are invited to an annual one-day chess tournament April 6.
The Lou Domanski Chess Festival, previously known as the Sandpoint Chess Festival, uses the Swiss system and is coordinated by James Stripes. Swiss tournaments are non-eliminating with a predetermined number of rounds. In this style, competitors do not play all other competitors.
The event is hosted by the Sandpoint Parks and Recreation Department. City officials invite all chess fans to come join the fun, to bring a lunch, and be ready to play all day. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Sandpoint Community Hall.
Divisions will include elementary, middle and high school, and open. Medals will be awarded for each division. Each division has a different online registration form and fee, which must be completed by March 28. Scholarships are available with more information on requirements for assistance available through Sandpoint Parks and Recreation.
