LEWISTON — Bella Bailey was one of seven Bulldogs who qualified for the championship round and the only Bulldog to win all of her matches this past Friday at the Larry McConnell Tournament, which was eventually canceled due to rainy conditions.

“We were in a very good position to do some damage going into Saturday’s championship,” head coach Kent Anderson said. “Unfortunately, rain prematurely canceled the tournament.”

Bella Bailey was the most impressive, defeating her opponents from Mead, Kamiakin, and Capital on Friday. She is now on a 4-match winning streak heading into Sandpoint’s next dual match.

Each player played three matches in a round robin format to qualify for the championship round. The other six Sandpoint athletes who qualified are as follows: Jacob Dawson (2-1), Matthew Norton (2-1), Brennan Jonhson/Fisher Dail (2-1), Neva Reseska (2-1), Aubrey Knowles/Sydney Webb (2-1), and Berkeley Cox/Noah Spinney (2-1).

Anderson said Dawson played some of his best tennis of the season at the tournament.

“Jacob was hitting with power & finesse,” Anderson said. “His footwork has really improved this year, as well.”

Sandpoint travels to Moscow today.
