SANDPOINT — The Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash Wednesday that sent two people to the hospital.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:07 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 95 at W. Elmira Road.

ISP officials said the crash happened after the driver of a white Mercury Grand Marquis crossed the double center line and struck a maroon Chevrolet Malibu head-on. Both drivers, who are in their early 50s, were transported via ground ambulance to the hospital where they were treated for injuries resulting from the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet was then taken to a separate facility for further treatment, troopers said.

Evidence found at the scene indicates that drugs and/or alcohol may have been involved in this crash, ISP officials said.

Traffic in both directions on the highway was stopped for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to allow emergency responders to assist those involved.

This incident remains under investigation.
