Community invited to join Patient & Family Advisory Council

| May 1, 2024 1:00 AM

Newport Hospital & Health Services is encouraging community members to submit applications for its Patient & Family Advisory Council by June 14.

The purpose of the council is to partner with other patients and family members health care providers, and staff to communicate patient and family concerns and help with problem-solving, with the goal of improving the patient experience at Newport Hospital & Health Services, which serves patients in Pend Oreille County, Wash., and western Bonner County.

Patient and family advisors share their stories, participate in discussion groups, provide input on new processes, marketing campaigns, and forms. They will be updated on upcoming projects and give feedback from a patient’s perspective. Additionally, they will review educational material and provide feedback to District Administration. The council is expected to meet for 1-2 hours every other month.

Everyone is welcome to apply, and there are no special qualifications necessary. The District is interested in council members’ patient experiences and that of family members who have received care at Newport Hospital and Health Services in the past five years. Applicants should be comfortable sharing ideas, respect differences of opinion, listen well, keep positive attitudes, and adhere to confidentiality requirements.

Applications are available atnewporthospitalandhealth.org/pfac/ or via email request at PFAC@nhhsqualitycare.org. Completed applications should be emailed to PFAC@nhhsqualitycare.org no later than Friday, June 14. After initial screening, NHHS will reach out to selected individuals to schedule interviews.

Final applicants will be required to undergo a Washington State Patrol background check, sign confidentiality agreements, and adhere to HIPAA/privacy standards. This is a volunteer position, so PFAC members will not be paid to participate. Fewer than 10 applicants will be selected to join the council.
