WSU Master Gardeners offer “Firewise” class
Are you wondering how to buffer your property against this year’s approaching wildfire season?
Get your questions answered Thursday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. The Master Gardeners are sponsoring speaker Guy Gifford, the Assistant Division Manager of the Community Resilience Program, which is affiliated with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources Wildland Fire Management Division. He will cover landscaping strategies, forest management practices and more. Being Firewise can mean the difference between a charred foundation where your home once stood or being that image on TV of the house still standing after a wall of fire swept through the community.
The class will take place at the Create Arts Center, located at 900 4th Street in Newport. The class fee is $5, ($3 for MGs), and can be paid by check, money order, cash or through PayPal. To register for this class, contact Beverly Sarles, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at 509-447-2401 or email anytime at: beverly.sarles@wsu.edu.
