POAC exhibit to benefit high school art programs
The Pend Oreille Arts Council is hosting an upcoming exhibition featuring the renowned artist and retired Washington State University professor, Sandra Salo Deutchman.
The exhibition, which opens Friday, May 3, will showcase a vibrant collection of Sandra's acrylic and gouache paintings, highlighting her distinctive style.
Sandra’s work, characterized by curator Johanna Hays as "semi-abstract," invites viewers into a world of vibrant colors, rhythmic textures, and harmonious interrelationships of organic forms. Her pieces evoke strong emotional responses while offering ambiguous abstract forms that suggest multiple meanings.
The exhibition celebrates her expansive body of work, featuring 15 pieces carefully selected to resonate with a broad audience. When Sandra sold her Sandpoint home to move to Eugene, Ore., she entrusted a portion of her collection to POAC to be sold to benefit local high school art programs, making this event a meaningful opportunity to support arts education.
"We are honored to present Sandra Salo Deutchman’s work to the Sandpoint community," says POAC Arts Coordinator, Claire Christy. "Her art appeals to anyone drawn to color, texture, and organic forms. This exhibition is not only a rare chance to acquire a Deutchman piece but also a meaningful way to contribute to visual arts education in our local schools."
The exhibition will be a must-visit for art enthusiasts and collectors seeking unique additions to their collections. All pieces will be available for purchase at reduced prices, with proceeds directly supporting high school art programs in Bonner County.
The opening reception will take place Friday, May 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., providing attendees with the first opportunity to view and acquire Sandra's captivating works. The exhibition will run until June 1.
The Pend Oreille Arts Council exists to facilitate quality experiences in the arts through educational programs and presentations that benefit the people of North Idaho.
