Sandpoint JV tennis posts great performances at districts
COEUR d’ALENE — The Sandpoint junior varsity tennis team had five top three finishes at the 4A/5A district championships held at both Lake City and Coeur d’Alene High on Saturday.
In boys singles, Austin Leonard placed second, falling to a Coeur d’Alene opponent in the finals. Head coach Kent Anderson said Leonard used his power/slice serve to help control his first three matches in the finals.
In boys doubles, Colby Dyk & Lane Harris also placed second, falling to a very tough Lake City duo in the finals via a tiebreaker.
“Colby and Lane are consistent and calm on the court and they make their opponents work for every point,” Anderson said.
Kai Leavitt and Joey Allen also lost after a tiebreaker, finishing third. Anderson said the pari really’ upped’ their game this season and peaked at the right time.
In girls singles, Donna Tutin, who Anderson said is another player on a rapid upward trajectory, placed third after a convincing 6-2 victory. In girls doubles, Morgan Harris and Avery Thornton took home third after a big 6-5 win.
Anderson said he couldn’t be prouder of the entire junior varsity team.
