Spring has sprung and residents throughout the county are getting their gardens ready for the last of the cold to leave so planting can begin.

This weekend, the Bonner County Gardeners Association is hosting a two-day plant sale at the Ponderay Event Center. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 10, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, attendees can peruse the parking lot, which will be filled with annuals, perennials, tomatoes, veggies, berries, herbs and other unique varieties of plants.

“All the plants were born and raised here in North Idaho,” association members said in a Facebook post. “Come early for the best selection.”

The following weekend, the East Bonner County Library District is also hosting a two-day plant swap. On Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, attendees can find a plethora of plant varieties at the Clark Fork Library.

“Come take a plant [or plants] even if you don’t have anything to share,” library staff said. “If you bring plants to share, please make sure they are healthy, labeled and pest-free.”

All house- and garden-variety plants at any stage of growth are welcome at the swap.

This event is free of charge and interested parties are welcome to drop in at any time during regular library hours on either day, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Sandpoint Library will also be hosting an all-day plant swap Saturday, May 18. Just like the Clark Fork Library, guests are invited to pick up plants even if they don’t have any to bring.

“Rain or shine, we’ll be in the garden sharing plants throughout the event,” staff said. “If the weather is bad, we’ll have the greenhouse open and some easy-ups for cover. The library will have vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers grown in the garden and greenhouse available.”

Guests are welcome to bring plants to share with others, but request that all plants be labeled prior to the event. All house and garden plants are welcome at any stage of growth.
