ST. MARIES — Kylee Swoboda cleared five feet in the high jump to place first, Carter Korff snagged top three finishes in three different events and Priest River’s boys and girls both placed fourth at the 2A District 1-2 Track & Field Championships held at St. Maries High on Friday and Saturday.

Swoboda, a junior, is now a repeat district champion after winning the high jump again; her mark of five feet is tied for second best in state’s 2A classification. Korff placed second in the long jump (20-3) on Friday, then third in both the 100 (12.06) and triple jump (38-3 1/4), qualifying for the state meet in all. Brayden Lamanna followed up his third place finish in the 3200 (10:15.69) with a second place finish in the 1600, running to a new personal best time of 4:42.81. Haley Braae was third in the 100, setting a new personal best time of 14.30 seconds.

On the field, Chase Smith was third in both the long jump (14-5 3/4) and triple jump (30-7), setting new personal bests in both events. Jasmine Stark, who was second and broke the school record in the pole vault (8-2) Friday, placed second in the 400 with a new personal best of 1:06.25. Lizzie McCracken placed second in the 800 (2:36.16), third in the 1600 (6:15.67) — her first time qualifying for state in both events. Ian Lamanna was second in the pole vault (11-6), qualifying for the second straight year.

Braae, Stark, Swoboda and Ashlynn Korff won the girls' 4x200 relay in 1:56.02 to finish first. Rebecca Sedbrook finished fifth in the shot put (33-3 1/2), qualifying for state via a wildcard spot.

As noted in Friday’s edition of the Daily Bee, Niki Porinchok (high jump, 5-4 and discus, 136-8 1/2) and Marley Burgess-Duquette (pole vault, 7-0) are also headed to the state championship.

"While both teams finished lower than we had hoped, both teams outscored their projected team points," head coach Jared Hughes said. "The coaching staff is extremely proud of how all the athletes competed. I am also so very thankful and blessed to have such an amazing coaching staff that had the kids ready to go."

The 2A IHSAA Track & Field Championships will be held May 17-18 at Middleton High.
