Help Stamp Out Hunger today
The National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual food drive is being held today, May 11. Its single mission is to help feed the hungry in America. It is the largest one-day food drive in the U.S.
"The reality of hunger is disturbing in our community," Chris Carr, Sandpoint food drive coordinator, said. "One in seven Americans does not have enough to eat. Children, senior citizens, veterans, and entire families need our helping hands."
Carr said community residents can help with the fight against hunger with the assistance of the community's letter carriers.
"Just leave a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox the morning of Saturday, May 11, and your letter carrier will pick it up," Carr added.
Postal Service officials said residents can also drop off donations at Safeway, Super 1 Foods and Yokes. All food collected goes directly to food banks in the community.
"Hunger in America is a real problem," Carr said. "Please be part of the solution Saturday, May 11th. Help us stamp out hunger."
