4A STATE TRACK & FIELD: Vick breaks 300 hurdles school record, medals twice

MERIDIAN — Sandpoint’s Ani Vick finished third in the 300 hurdles (46.60), fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.53), setting new personal bests in each, as the Bulldogs wrapped things up at the 4A State Track & Field Championship on Saturday.

Vick’s time of 46.60 seconds in the 300 hurdles beat out the old Sandpoint High School record by a tenth of a second, which was set back in 1981. Elia Howard was also impressive Saturday, setting a new personal best and finishing fifth in the 200 (26.00); she also finished sixth in the 100.

Also picking up top 10 finishes for the girls were Ivy Smith (fifth in discus), Jetta Thaete (ninth in discus), and Grace Rookey, who was eighth in the 1600 with a new personal best time of 5:18.35.

Leading the way for the boys on the second day was Daniel Ricks and Jett Longanecker, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800. Longanecker’s time of 1:58.56 is a new personal best and his first time breaking the two-minute barrier. In the 1600, Paul Kent and Nathan Roche finished sixth and ninth, respectively ... Kent ran a new personal best time of 4:26.82.

Sandpoint’s boys finished sixth with 33 points while the girls were seventh with 44 points.
