NEWPORT — After four years of leading the Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, board president and Roxy Theatre owner, Jason Totland, is stepping down.

“It has been my honor to serve our community in this capacity,” says Jason Totland. “I am proud of all that we have achieved together as a business community, and I am excited to see the chamber continue to grow and thrive under the new leadership.”

The board unanimously voted to appoint Jake Abbott, owner of Ruby Creek Resort and co-chair of the chamber’s 2024 Gala Committee, as interim president until officer elections are held in November.

Abbott’s background in the nonprofit sector, most recently as the executive director for the American Heart Association’s Idaho Division, demonstrates his commitment to making a positive impact.

“I’ve always been driven to public service and creating a ripple effect," Abbott said, expressing his enthusiasm for the interim president role. "Whether it’s helping small businesses thrive, advocating for educational opportunities, or fundraising for worthy causes, I’m dedicated to making a difference.”

Abbott said he is honored to serve as interim president and plans to collaborate with local businesses to propel the Greater Newport area forward.

"Our collective efforts will ensure this idyllic place remains a vibrant community where people love to live, work, and play," he said in a press release.

The chamber recently posted an online survey to provide a way for interested individuals to contribute their skills to one of the chamber’s committees, including Marketing, Events, Government Affairs, and more. The survey is available on the chamber’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/newportareachamber.

The next Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held at 6 p.m. June 26, at Frontier Title & Escrow Company, 125 S. Washington Ave., Newport.
