James Young Jr., 51

| May 25, 2024 1:00 AM

James Dale Young, Jr., 51, passed away at his home in Kootenai, Idaho, on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Calvary Chapel with Pastor Jason Gold officiating.

Jim was born Jan. 7, 1973, in Torrance, Calif., to James and Bernetta Young. He grew up in Sandpoint, Idaho, where on any given day you’d likely find him riding his bike until the siren called out curfew, but then he’d have to hit just a few more jumps on the way home with his south town buddies. Jim also stayed active playing soccer, football and baseball throughout his teen years and was a graduate of Sandpoint High School in 1991.

For his profession, Jim chose not to shy away from hard work, he became a stone mason just out of high school and eventually built his own company known as James Young Masonry. He had a true skill and artistry to his work, making him known as one of the best in his trade.

Jim worked hard, but he also knew how to have a good time. He had many hobbies including fishing Lake Pend Oreille, golfing, camping, playing horseshoes or cornhole with friends and family, and watching sports, mostly the Los Angeles Rams.

Nothing topped his biggest passion, though, which was spending time with his best friend and son, Micah James. He loved watching Micah golf and spent countless hours at the course with him, dreaming of sending him to college to play and someday becoming a tour pro.

Jim’s death has left a deep hole that will not easily be filled. He was an amazing son to his mom, a wonderful brother to his big brother and little sister, and an exceptional companion to his beloved dog, Stones. He felt like the glue to his family with his generous and giving heart and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his two children, daughter Melina Kimmons of Fort Worth, Texas, and son Micah James Young of Sandpoint; mother Bernetta Young of Sandpoint and father James Young Sr. of Angola, La. ; siblings Marc Young (Lisa Johnson) of Hayden, Idaho, and Edie (Greg) Inman of Sandpoint; his two grandchildren, Presley and Penelope, as well as his nieces and nephews, Noah and Autumn Armstrong and Brody, Brooklyn and Blair Young, along with many lifelong friends. Jim is preceded in death by his grandparents and his loyal companion, Konan.

Following the service, a reception will be held at 1908 Saloon.
