Personal attack was cruel and unwarranted
As I sit at my computer tonight I'm reflecting on some events of this day with a deeply saddened heart.
I grew up in this beautiful town and the ugliness perpetrated against my granddaughter and great-grandson in Memorial Park stunned and amazed me. While enjoying this public place (and I emphasize public) my granddaughter was approached by a group of women who told her she needed to change the brand of sunscreen she was using on her 2-year-old. She was also advised to wear something more appropriate for motherhood. (By the way, she was wearing decent-length shorts and a tank top.)
Humiliating wouldn't begin to describe this attack! Maybe she wasn't dressed in Patagonia brand clothing and couldn't afford designer lotions but she was protecting her child from the sun's rays.
Nothing could protect her, however, from the hurt and embarrassment endured in her local park — a place where she and we will never again feel truly safe. I don't pretend to understand where your cruelty comes from, but shame on you.
