May 28, 1974 – PROUDLY WE SALUTE…
23 persons received awards in the annual ROTC program at ISU, Pocatello, including Major Joseph Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Robinson, who won an American Legion Military Excellence Award.
First Lt. Dennis E. James, son of Rose Perry, has begun a 13-month tour of duty on Okinawa. James, a Marine pilot, is now flying transports. His wife, the former Kandi Fisher, Sandpoint, and son, Joshua, have joined him there for a short visit and will then return to their home in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Navy Fireman Apprentice Ronald Roberson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Roberson, is on the attack aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, which just departed the Indian Ocean and will resume normal operations with the U.S. 7th Fleet in the Western Pacific. The 1972 SHS graduate joined the Navy in April 1973.

SOURDOUGH AND CANDY CONTEST
Eighteen Grange women had 27 entries in the recent Bonner County sourdough products and candy contest at Pack River Grange. Mrs. Thelma Herrmann, Westmond, won first place for her rhubarb pie with a sourdough crust and third for her applesauce cake; Florence Kruse, Westmond, won second with a chocolate cake. Mrs. Kruse placed first on sourdough French bread; Florence Fiedler, Freeman Lake, second on bread; and Mary Holbert, Pack River, third place on bread. In the candy contest, Lois Hammacher won first with peanut butter fudge; Sue Ann Fouquette, second, divinity; Irene Lee, third, fudge. All three were from Freeman Lake Grange. Judges were Mrs. Don McCormick and Mrs. JoAnn Miller, home extension agent.

May 28, 1949 – BIGGEST DOLLY SO FAR!
Gary Pietsch, 14, on Sunday boated the biggest Dolly Varden so far this year. He caught the 16 lb. 5 oz. fish on a 4-inch Martin Gantron pearl pink fireplug off Kilroy bay. It was the only strike of the day.

BURGLARS LOOT BONNER BUILDING SAFE
When Bonner Building co. employee Paul Knaggs entered the office at Second and Church at 9 p.m. Saturday, he found the company safe on the floor in a litter of papers and broken metal, and immediately notified police. Entrance had been gained through a lavatory window in a narrow alleyway. The loss of $1,000, $400 in cash, is covered by insurance.

SAGLE SCHOOL GRADUATION
At the May 19 graduation in the Sagle school auditorium, the following received diplomas: Patricia Reedy, Sylvia Watt, Dick Turnbull, Del Pierce, Mona Jane Brisboy, Jim Applington, Carol Garrison, Marie Dunlap, Carol Dawson, Terry McConnaughey and Ray Pierce. The class colors were green and gold.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kalk have a new grandson, John Harry, born May 20 to their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry [Margaret] Phillips.
