SANDPOINT — The Bonner County commissioners voted Tuesday to approve the transfer of roles for a justice services position in the juvenile detention center.

Bonner County HR generalist Alissa Clark told the board that Justice Services was looking to convert a juvenile detention supervisor role into a training and Prison Rape Elimination Act coordinator position.

Contrary to the way the item was written on the agenda, Clark clarified that the department was not seeking to create a new position in the county; they were only looking to transfer the roles of the current position to better fit the needs of the detention center.

“They would do the posting, then they would hire internally with one of their supervisors so there would be no additional headcount,” she said. “It would stay the same; it would just be a different role.”

Commissioner Luke Omodt again clarified that no new personnel would be hired for the position and that a new position was not being created in the department.

“It’s a different job description with different duties to meet the needs,” Omodt said.

Director of Justice Services, Ron Stultz, said that the department is basically taking a current shift supervisor and changing the title of that position. The employee will take on some additional duties after the change, but will continue to have various advisory duties as well.

Clark also added that this will be a lateral transfer with no pay increase for the position, despite the additional duties.

Commissioner Asia Williams moved to amend the motion, wanting to convert the juvenile detention supervisor position to include being a training and PREA coordinator, rather than completely renaming the position.

The amendment passed unanimously, as did the amended motion.
