LEGION BASEBALL: Day’s big day pushes 19U Lakers past Lums
COEUR d’ALENE — Gavin Day hit two-run singles in both the third and fifth innings, an RBI double in the seventh, and the 19U North Idaho Lakers took down the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 14-2 at Thorco Field on Wednesday.
To start the Lakers off, Jacob Hansen hit an RBI single up the middle in the second inning for the first run of the game. In the third, fifth, and seventh, with Day leading the charge, the Lakers put up four runs in all three innings en route to victory. In the fifth, both Jorden Tyler and Soren Caprio hit RBI singles to right field to extend the lead to 10-1. In addition to Day’s RBI double in the seventh, Finn Mellander and Tyler both hit RBI doubles of their own to give North Idaho a 14-1 advantage.
Sage Medeiros was 3-for-3 with three singles for the second time this season; he is now batting 7-for-8 after the first three games. Day finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs. 12 of the Lakers’ 15 hits on the night were singles.
Dallen Williams picked up his second win of the year with another dominant performance on the mound. Williams threw six innings, conceding just one hit, one run and two walks while striking out nine batters. He now holds a 0.99 ERA and has struck out 17 batters across nine innings to start his summer campaign. Tyler finished out the final inning for the Lakers on the bump, striking out two batters.
North Idaho (3-0) will be back in action Tuesday, June 11, in Lewiston where they’ll face the Lewis-Clark Cubs.
