Sunnyside Road closed today for repairs
SANDPOINT — The Bonner County Road and Bridge Department will be closing Sunnyside Road for a short period today to make repairs after an unexpected road washout in the 100 block.
Road and Bridge director Jason Topp said that upon further investigation, the torrential downpour Sandpoint was hit with last week caused the bank along the road to become saturated and it eventually gave way.
“There was no damage to the roadway itself, so we coned it off to do the needed repairs after the holiday was over when we could get the proper equipment moved into place,” Topp said.
The road will remain open until school buses have safely finished their routes before the closure begins.
“Sunnyside Road should only be closed for about four hours while we do the repairs and rip rap [place a large stone barrier along] the bank,” said Topp. “The culvert looks to be still in good shape.”
A detour sign will be in place before Sunnyside Cutoff and two additional detour signs will be placed at the railroad underpass at the U.S. 95 entrance.
The road is expected to be reopened by late afternoon Wednesday.
