May 22 – Mr. and Mrs. Jack Yelton, Sandpoint, girl, 6 lb. 4 oz.; May 24 – Mr. and Mrs. James Holt, Sandpoint, twin boys, 6 lb. 15 oz., 7 lb. 1 oz.; and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Sommerfield, Sandpoint, girl, 7 lb. 9½ oz.; May 26 – Mr. and Mrs. John Draper, Newport, Wash., boy, 4 lb. 12 oz.; May 27 – Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Chapin, Samuels, girl, 7 lb. 8½ oz.

CLARK FORK HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF ‘74
In addition to four who graduated in January, Clark Fork High School will have 21 graduating on May 31. Class valedictorian is Tracy Westfall; co-salutatorians are Gail Erickson and Sherry Franck.

FOUR SHS VALEDICTORIANS
Steve Hepperle, SHS senior class president announced that the class has four valedictorians: Jamie Fallat, Kaye Wenig, Jody Wahlgren and Merrilyn Snyder. Donna Jo Leonard is salutatorian.

PROUDLY WE SALUTE…
Navy Seaman Recruit David D. Simon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton C. Simon, Sandpoint, graduated from recruit training at the Naval Training Ctr., San Diego.
Clark Hoyt arrived home May 23 to spend a two-week leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoyt, Rte. 2, Sandpoint, upon completion of basic Army training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. After leave, he reports to Ft. Gordon, Ga., for AIT in electronics.
Marine Gunnery Sgt. William R. Stevens, whose wife Jeraldine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerald Hazeltine of 315 Euclid, Sandpoint, has reported for duty at the Cherry Point, N.C. Marine Corps Air Stn.

May 30, 1949 – JACK PARKER SOLOS AT 16
Jack Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Parker, tried his wings on his 16th birthday when he soloed in his father’s Cessna 170 last week. The lad is well acquainted with flying, having accompanied his father on numerous trips, some of considerable distance. He is Sandpoint’s youngest pilot.

FISHING FROM BRIDGE IS OUT
Fishing from the railway bridge across Lake Pend Oreille may be fun and anglers may catch some nice Dollys and cutthroats but it is dangerous and against the law, says Sheriff Robt. Ellersick, warning fishermen they are trespassing on railroad property and subjecting themselves to danger from passing trains. The sheriff says he likes to fish himself, but it just can’t be done from the N.P. bridge any more.

BRIDAL SHOWER GIVEN
Molly McFarland entertained Thursday with a bridal shower honoring Patty Johnson, who will marry Roy Hoekema in Spokane on June 25. The group made records and played games, after which a lovely dessert was served at a table decorated in pink and white. Guests included the honored guest, Charlotte Pennington, Peggy Patton, Ruby Thompson, Kay Robinson and Barbara Tolbert.
