KNPS sets talk on 'bugs, crud, and critters'
SANDPOINT — A forest health specialist will discuss how insects, diseases and animals affect local forest ecosystems during a free presentation Nov. 16 at the East Bonner County Library.
Izabella Valdez of the Idaho Department of Lands will present "Bugs, Crud, and Critters" at 10 a.m. at the library's main branch, 1407 Cedar St. Refreshments will be served starting at 30 minutes before the program.
Valdez will explain how to identify and manage various threats to forest health, including both native and invasive species that can damage trees. The presentation will cover pest life cycles, warning signs and current forest health challenges.
A Colorado State University graduate, Valdez joined the Idaho Department of Lands in June 2022. She provides forest health training to private landowners and agency personnel while coordinating insect surveys across the state. Her previous experience includes roles as a plant health technician, noxious weeds sprayer for the U.S. Forest Service and timber sale preparation forester.
The Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society is presenting the program in partnership with the library and Sandpoint Parks & Recreation. For more information, contact Preston Andrews at KNPS.Tech@gmail.com.
