LPOSD to field renovation input

SANDPOINT — Lake Pend Oreille School District officials are seeking stakeholder feedback as they prepare to renovate Sandpoint Middle School.

LPOSD is inviting community members to join Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer for a Nov. 12, 9:30–10:30 a.m. coffee klatch at The Bernklau (316 Pine St.). Additionally, a public meeting about the renovation will take place at 4 p.m. that afternoon in Sandpoint Middle School’s cafeteria.

“The facility decisions we make as a community today will have an enduring impact on our students’ futures,” Meyer said. “This is the opportunity for all stakeholders to give their input into the design of the SMS renovation project and tell us what they think is important.”

Trustees voted in July to adopt a 10-year facilities plan that allocates $18.5 million for improvements to SMS. The 71-year-old building suffered a broken water main that closed the building for multiple days in December 2023 and is now set to receive a new heating system, electrical improvements and a roof replacement, among other upgrades.

During the October meeting of the school board, LPOSD trustees approved a contract for architectural services with LTA Architects. According to the 10-year plan, construction for the renovation project is scheduled to take place in 2025 and 2026.

Following the Nov. 12, 4 p.m. public forum, the school board will host its regular 5 p.m. monthly meeting in Sandpoint Middle School’s cafeteria.
